The breeder whom this strain was named after states that Bubba Kush emerged just after 1996, when an OG Kush hybrid pollinated an unknown indica strain obtained in New Orleans. The mother plant was supposedly Northern Lights, but the genetically ambiguous indica was simply called “Bubba.” Bubba Kush has flourished from its California roots ever since.
Blue crush strain is an sativa dominant weed, the result of interbreeding Bubblegum and Kush. Bubblegum took three prizes in the 1995 High Times Cannabis Cup, second overall, third in the Bio section, and 2nd in the Hydro Cup. This weed includes many of the qualities that won awards for its parent.
Although it has a pungent, skunky smell, the flavor offers tones of pine and lemon, with a hint of Eastern spice. The hit is typically Indica. It comes on quick and will leave you lying on the couch – probably not to be recommended as a morning smoke. In medical use, it’s good for appetite stimulation and helping with insomnia.
The plants have a short bushy growing habit, as you’d expect from a Kush type. The leaves have broad fingers and are dark green, sometimes tending towards the purplish. The plant produces a profusion of heavy, dark green buds with orange and brown hairs. At up to 18 percent, this plant’s THC level is towards the higher end of the scale.
